Instrument Panel Preparation
Using a router and template
Planning to install a VM-1000 engine monitor system, I used a metal template and router to prepare the complex hole that it requires.
This picture shows the router and panel. A 3/4" wooden spacer was used and if you look close you will see the metal template that the router bearing followed.
The second picture shows the template on the underside of the 3/4" spacer.
These pictures show how the router bit glides along the template and the
finished product. This was the last hole in the panel for gauges.
The next cuts will be for switches. The VM1000 installed. That is an
impressive display that will cut down on the scan time. It weighs less,
adding the CPU, than all the instruments that it replaces. Minimizes panel space as well.

The switches will also be installed in holes that are cut with a router. I
have fabricated the templates and just have to decide where they go for sure
before cutting.
