GASCOLATOR INSTALLATION-RV4
The gascolator is a difficult item to install in a clean and professional way
in the RV4. It should be the lowest point in the fuel system, away from
exhaust and in an area that makes pre-flight examination easy and clean.
The engine mount is a complicated crisscross of tubing in the lower fire wall.
Factors that I wanted to accomplish were:
1. Firewall penetration with bulkhead fitting.
2. Mount gascolator mid-fuselage .
3. Use steel fittings firewall forward.
Out of a single piece of .040 2024T3, I made an angled bracket that leveled the
angled firewall and bridged the transverse engine mount tube. To better
fortify the mount, I fashoned a side bracket that is held with an3 bolts and
nutplates. The gascolator in an Andair type from van's.
The finished product has an .080 doubler, bulkhead firewall penetration, all
steel fittings and high-pressure, fire-sleeved hoses and "scat" tubing
for cool air from the rear baffle.
You can see how busy the area can be, limited space and a few systems that need
to live there.
